Who We Are

The Southeastern High School Model United Nations Conference (SHSMUN) was originally founded in 1995 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Since then, the conference has grown into one of the largest in the area, currently hosting over six hundred delegates in thirteen different committees each November. Unlike most high school Model UN conferences, which are typically overseen by college students, SHSMUN is led by a team of dedicated high school students who spend all year preparing a great experience for their peers. All the members of the SHSMUN Staff use their experiences as delegates to improve the quality of the conference year after year.

The conference runs from Saturday to Monday at the Chattanooga Convention Center, eventually culminating in a conference-wide General Assembly (GA), which convenes to debate and vote on the resolutions passed in individual committees. SHSMUN chooses to embrace General Assembly because it encourages leadership and strengthens public speaking skills, in addition to more realistically simulating the real United Nations.

SHSMUN strives to provide an experience for high school students that is unmatched by any other conference in the region.
