The primary purpose of the International Maritime Organization is to develop and maintain a comprehensive regulatory framework for shipping, which includes safety, environmental concerns, legal matters, technical co-operation, maritime security and the efficiency of shipping.

Topic A: Resilient Telecommunication Infrastructure in Disaster Response and Recovery

With the increasing occurrence and intensity of natural disasters around the world, communication remains the centerpiece for a successful disaster response and recovery. Aside from the deployment of emergency telecommunications equipment, maintaining resilient telecommunication infrastructure and normal operation of a given communication network based on prepared facilities offers countries a sustainable, cost-effective means for disaster recovery.

Topic B: Regulatory Barriers for Nanosatellites

Nanosatellites provide a promising future for developing countries in space research due to their cheap production and deployment cost; however, issues in space resource allocation, operation safety, and registration remain unsolved. The ITU is tasked with addressing those issues to protect the equitable and sustainable use of space resources.

Topic C: Universal Design Standards for ICT Accessibility

Universal Design (UD) – a design framework for products, environments, programmes and services to maximize their accessibility – provides a unique insight into minimizing the digital gap, especially for marginalized groups. Not greatly popularized, UD implementation is littered with barriers including the lack of awareness, harmonization, instructions, and governmental support.
