As a member of the United Nations Development Group, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s primary objective is the promotion and acceleration of industrial development in developing countries and countries with economies in transition and the promotion of international industrial cooperation.

Topics

Topic A: Cross Cutting Services in Industrial Parks

Industrial parks - conglomerations of industries intended to promote productivity and sustainable development - are mired in dissension. Though they have been proven to help countries and corporations make billion dollar profits and raise employment levels, they have the potential to drain resources and increase worker exploitation. Despite parks’ ubiquity today, international frameworks are lacking in their approach to these problems.

Topic B: Combating Youth Unemployment through Productive Work

Worldwide, over 600 million youth are not in employment, education, or training. Economic crises and a changing job market have seen their potential go untapped even as the private and public sectors converge in exciting new industries. The youth unemployment crisis must be resolved to ensure future economic stability and prosperity for all.

Topic C: The Impacts of Industry 4.0

Artificial intelligence, rapid data transfer, and cloud computing are all symbols of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, an impending change that will integrate technology into industry like never before. Predicted to be worth $4 trillion USD by 2020, Industry 4.0 is poised to launch some countries into the future, while others still face issues like the digital divide, economic dependency, and adequate infrastructure.

1. ) Why do you participate in Model UN?

I participate in Model UN because it is an experience like no other. The intensity of debate and the hilarity that inevitably arises is simply amazing! Many of my best memories and most treasured friends have their roots at this conference, because whether I am talking, working on, or thinking about SHSMUN, I enjoy every second of it. They say do what you love, love what you do, and even though it’s a cliche, I can’t think of anything else that sums up my love for Model UN.

2.) What kind of food would you be? Why?

A bagel. I’d say we spend about the same amount of time at Panera.

3.) What is your Favorite SHSMUN memory?

It’s SHSMUN - I can’t pick just one! In General Committee 2017, we moved through resolutions so fast that we ran out, so our chair decided to have us watch the Parks and Rec MUN episode. My other favorite memory was when we were dashing back from a restaurant so we would make it on time for the next committee session. My friend in heels kept falling over, so a few of us just carried her back several city blocks so we wouldn’t be late.

4.) If your life was a book what would the title be?

Punstoppable

5.)What's your favorite quote?

“Let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” - Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
