The World Health Organization is one of the primary international medical bodies. As a specialized agency of the United Nations, WHO is responsible for improving global medical systems, providing guidance and information on diseases and public health issues, creating model plans for medical systems and emergency situations, and setting the global health agenda. WHO’s goal is to ensure healthy futures for all global citizens by promoting healthy lifestyles and combatting diseases.

Measles, a virus thought to be eradicated in many countries, has made a comeback into the 21th century due to various reasons. The continent of Africa has been affected greatly and is in grave danger if the outbreak is not contained properly in time.

Technology has pervaded most aspects of modern society, but it was not until recently that the medical field became affected. Technological advancements now drive medical innovation forward, but not all countries have access to these advancements.


Topic C: Mediating the Health Risks of Manufactured Chemicals

The production and use of manufactured chemicals has dramatically increased over the past years. Even though manufactured chemicals play a key role in the production of many goods, exposure to a even a small amount of a hazardous manufacture chemicals can be deadly to human health.

1. ) Why do you participate in Model UN?

I participate in Model UN because I love it when people come together setting aside their differences, figuring out what’s wrong and find a solution for it. Plus it’s a great learning opportunity I wouldn’t get anywhere else. SHSMUN has helped me open up to different world views and has changed my perspective on global issues.

2.) What kind of food would you be? Why?

Applesause. Why? - It’s a long story

3.) What is your Favorite SHSMUN memory?

My favorite memory has to be when some friends and I met this really cool old homeless person after dinner one night.
